  The faculty of life science which is home to 4 departments, Biochemistry, Botany, Microbiology, Zoology had their new faculty building yesterday, inaugurated by his excellency, Mr Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State. Many attested to the fact that the design of the building was outstanding. The ceremony was graced by the VC, Prof. Ignatius Akhakhia Onimawo, dean of the faculty, Mrs Ohenhen, head of the 4 various departments, and some other high officials. Although the governor of Edo state was absent, the event was held in high spirit. Another highlight of the day was the addition of another department to the faculty, called Nutrition and dietry. Maryam Sanda, the lady who stabbed her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, to death at their home in Abuja in November last year 2017, today made a confession in court. The alleged ‘killer wife’ begged trial Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Abuja High Court sitting at Jabi to reconsider an earlier application she filed to be released on bail pending the determination of the murder charge against her. Maryam’s lawyer, Mr. Joseph Daudu, SAN, urged the court to take pity on her client who he said would require proper medical attention at this early stage of her pregnancy.  Besides, Daudu, SAN, said he has raised objections against the competence of the charge which he said ought to have been commenced with a First Information Report, FIR, as envisaged under the Penal Code. Becky Moses, a 26-year-old Nigerian woman has died in a Friday night fire incident in a tent city housing hundreds of migrants in San Ferdinando, leading to protests by over 100 other immigrants on Monday Some of them held photos of Becky. Two other women were badly hurt and dozens of others received treatment for less serious injuries, La Repubblica reported. According to the newspaper, Moses had only been staying in the encampment for a few days before her death. She was previously a resident in Riace. However, having recently had her application for political asylum denied, Moses was obliged to leave Riace and had been sleeping instead in a tent in San Ferdinando. . The encampment is home to around 1,000 people living in tents and shacks. Most of the residents work as labourers on local farms. . The trial of a former Aviation minister, Femi Fani-kayode, stalled on Wednesday after the defendant’s lawyer told the judge his client could not attend proceedings due to heart-related ailments. . Norris Quakers, Mr. Fani-Kayode’s lawyer, said the ex-minister was complaining of a heart-related pain and had hospitalized for a heart disease. He said he would provide a medical report later today. . Mr. Fani-Kayode and Nenadi Usman, a former minister of state for finance, are facing a 17-count of money laundering amounting to N4.6 billion.
