How and at what age did you discover you love cooking?
Um... I started cooking at about age 12, when I was in Jss 2, that was in 2007 or 2008, It all started when my mom just said "You can do it, go and cook for us, we will eat it anyhow" It was rice and stew and it ended up being a bit salty, my mum then advised me on how to go about preparing it, telling me what I should and shouldn't put next time, but overall she said "you tried" That was enough to get me started (smiles)
What were the challenges you faced earlier as you started?
The challenges I had then was that my food usually gets burnt. (Laughs)
Okay, I came out to Cook on the indomie show as at first semester 300 level, though everyone was surprised because, I was the first person to come out when the show started. I never listened to side talks, a girl said and I quote "who be this one wey dey do girl thing, I go see as he wan take win" if I had listened to her remarks, I would have left the place, but I overcame all the negative thoughts because I believed in myself.
After we finished cooking, they called some members of the audience to come and taste the food, we were given a time limit, and they picked mine! I was so surprised because it came as a shock, and everyone there came and congratulated me.
Wow!! It was all over the blogs in AAU, it brought fame and made me to believe more in myself.
My hostel is actually sending me to another cooking competition which is coming up this August. Watch out!
I have been the one cooking for my hostel, during our hostel week since my 100 level till date. Three big pots of jollof rice and if you want to confirm, you can come next week Saturday, that's when I'm going to cook for my hostel again (laughs)
Um... Nothing really special, the ingredients are indomie ( any choice) Curry, Egg, Carrots, Vegetable, groundnut oil, Grinded pepper, and you are good to go.
The experience was interesting, we were only two guys out of over 40 students in the baking class.
When they picked my cake among the best 10, I was surprised because looking at it alone compared to what others did, mehn I will say it's Grace, it's not how far but how well. And I came out among the best 5 in the exams that was also organised.
It's God that has been helping me to blend everything together.
My plans after school, is to have my own eatery and name it Chef Curtis kitchen, it may take a lot of time but just watch out.
Pursue your dream, never listen to negative thoughts, how I wish I did, I wouldn't be here talking to you neither would I have won.
So my dear students most especially the guys, who think it's only girls that partake in those kind of competition, c'mon you didn't come to this world to please anybody but to please yourself, so rise up and be yourself.
All thanks to my Family, you all are the best
Thank you!!
It was indeed a wonderful time with you. There you go guys, hope you enjoyed it?
We should emulate the attitude of facing any challenge, despite what people say.
